The one true sign that autumn has arrived is a yard full of leaves. If you have some big trees in your backyard, you know that it is going to get flooded by the leaves come October or November. Well, that’s just how it goes. We do agree that it can be a drag to pick all of them up and get rid of them, there is no doubt about that.
Most of the people are going to put them in bags and wait for the garbage collectors to come and take them away. On the other hand, there are people that are just going to burn them because they have no use out of all those leaves.
We are going to tell you that you might want to keep at least some of them around. You might not have a lot of benefits, but they are not going to bother you at all if you put them in one place. On the other hand, there are a lot of insects in your yard that is going to enjoy this gesture of yours.
Why? Because a lot of them need a place to sleep during the winter. It’s just a cycle of life. When the colder days come, they need a place for hibernation. If you throw those leaves out, you are actually going to harm many creatures.
Destroying everything that drops from the trees and other plants in your garden is going to deprive it from carbon, nutrients, and, most importantly, many creatures. If you keep them in your possession, you are going to enable a wider range of local life and the leaf mold is going to become a great addition to your garden soil. Make sure you keep hold of those leaves.
